Gartner Names Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, Microsoft, NICE and UiPath as 2022 ‘Leaders’

A familiar group of names topped a recent evaluation of technology providers in the RPA sector, with one addition. This is the fourth year in a row Gartner produced a “Magic Quadrant” report for RPA vendors. This year, the list of “Leaders,” according to the global technology consultancy, includes returning companies Automation Anywhere, Microsoft, SS&C Blue Prism and UiPath, along with new entrant NICE.

Magic Quadrants use a proprietary analysis to place industry vendors in a graph that plots “ability to execute” on one axis and “completeness of vision on the other.” Companies that exhibit a high degree of both (those in the upper right “quadrant”) are identified by Gartner as “leaders” in the space. The firm says it is focused on the market as it will evolve into the future, not as it is today.

The Stamford. Conn.-based consultancy expects 95 percent of RPA vendors to offer automation via API and UI integration by 2024 and that 80 percent of companies that have deployed attended automation on desktops will have moved to UX covering web, mobile and voice interfaces.

In addition to the “leaders,” Gartner included 10 other RPA providers in its analysis: Appian, Cyclone Robotics, IBM, Laiye, Nintex, Pegasystems, Samsung SDS, Salesforce, SAP and WorkFusion.
